Traditional Celtic/Folk Music for Dances, Ceilidhs, Weddings and Parties. |
No Experience Necessary!
Welcome to the website for
Fiddle Free, a local Calgary Celtic Dance and Folk Band.
We offer Traditional Irish and English folk dances and music in and around the
Calgary area. No experience is necessary, we will teach you and your party the
dances during the event.
Folk dances are the ideal evening entertainment for weddings or
other functions. They involve everybody of all ages and are fun and
easy to learn.
A folk dance consists of a caller and a band. A caller, will first of all walk
people through the dance in detail. Then a quick walk through follows to reinforce the dance.
Finally the dance is done to music (whilst the caller calls out each part of the dance).

Frequently Asked Questions
- How long does each dance take? - Each dance takes about 10 minutes from the start
of the instruction till the dance being complete.
- How many dances are completed in an evening? - Normally about
10-12 dances are completed during the evening. This typically takes
about 2.5 - 3 hours including a short interval. We can provide
more or less as required.
- How much advance notice do I need to give for booking? - Please give us as
much notice as possible to ensure that we will be available for your
function. However if you are booking at short notice, we may still be
able to perform at your function.
- How much does it cost? - This largely depends on where and how many
band members you require. Our costs are very reasonable compared to other
entertainment.
- I have 2 left feet, HELP! - No problem, we cater to your difficulty, by the
end of the evening, you will have 1 right and one left!
- Do you provide your own amplification? - Yes, we provide everything we need to
hold the dance for you. We need space and a floor that has enough room for
dancing and adequate lighting. Also, we ask that there is 110V power available from at least
2 sockets. You may also want to provide food/drink for your guests.
- How do I book you? - First of all, please check that we are available for that
date, by emailing ff@fiddlefree.com or phoning (403) 770 6105 and asking for Mark.
After the date has been confirmed, we require a non-refundable deposit for the
booking. Payment in full is required in cash either before or at the end of
the dance.
